Supporting First Generation Students: A Conversation

Many WSCUC institutions are actively reaching out to and creating support mechanisms specific to first-generation students, while others are finding themselves concerned that they are not doing enough. What are some proven strategies for supporting and engaging students who are the first in their families to attend college? How are institutions changing to address first generation students’ needs? What are some different models and programs of first generation student support, and what evidence exists that the models and programs are effective? This lunch conversation offers a casual space for exploring ideas and sharing information about supporting first generation students in our institutions, as well as networking with each other around this critical topic.
