State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA) Update & Discussion

This Topical Lunch presentation will focus on issues related to interstate distance education and discuss updates with regard to implementation of the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA) nationwide with emphasis on the Western region.  Staff will lead a high-level discussion about the complex and rapidly changing landscape of state authorization in distance education, provide an update on state membership and institutional participation in SARA, and share SARA’s benefits to states, institutions, and students. Variation in the rate at which states and institutions across the nation participate in SARA also will be discussed. Such context should help state and institutional decision makers proceed with authorizations when it is optimal for them to do so. The processes by which states and institutions can join SARA will be explained with examples from states and institutions that already have completed these processes.
