W11 The Pathway to Achieving Initial Accreditation from WSCUC

This workshop is required for all institutions prior to submitting their WSCUC Eligibility application to achieve accreditation. The focus of this workshop will be the newly approved process for institutions seeking accreditation. The workshop will provide an overview of the process, including a review of each of the Eligibility Criteria and steps following the granting of Eligibility to achieve Initial Accreditation. Participants will examine excerpts from successful applications, consider possible timelines, and have an opportunity to ask questions prior to expending time and resources on this demanding process. Consideration is given to the wide range of types of institutions that may apply and to how the process may be adapted to each. Institutional representatives will explain effective strategies for organizing their campuses for first-time WSCUC reviews.

Richard Osborn
Vice President
WASC Senior College and University Commission

Richard Osborn, Vice President, joined WSCUC in July 2009 after serving eight years as President of Pacific Union College in Napa Valley, California. Dick has enjoyed the experience of growing up in international locations, including Lebanon and Uruguay. He has served at every level within education, including as teacher, principal, and superintendent at the elementary, junior high, and high school levels. As a regional and national education vice president, he served as board member/consultant for fifteen college/university boards conducting many training sessions and presenting strategic planning and other seminars. He also has served in various capacities on several hospital boards. Dick’s leadership capacity in several state and national associations includes recent service as Chair of the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities. Dick has an undergraduate degree from Columbia Union College in Takoma Park, Maryland, and an MA and a PhD in History from the University of Maryland, specializing in colonial Virginia history.

Jeb Egbert
West Coast University

Jeb B. Egbert, the Provost for West Coast University, is responsible for the oversight of academic programs, practices, policies and procedures of the University. He has a special interest in student learning and related assessment activities to enable the University to achieve continuous improvement. Dr. Egbert’s formal training comes from Texas A&M, where he earned his Doctorate in Education, and the University of Texas, where he received his M.B.A. Dr. Egbert spent nearly 20 years at a traditional, private higher education institution, serving in a variety of roles including Director of Career Services, Dean of Student Affairs, Assistant to the President and Chief Financial Officer.
