Faculty Mentoring: A High Impact Practice

The Faculty Mentor Program at CSU Stanislaus is a high impact practice that provides: trained faculty to have one-on-one mentoring with student protégés; organized monthly student-faculty interactions; an off-campus retreat to facilitate student-faculty and student-student engagement; and other information sessions to encourage student success. Assessment results indicate high retention and graduation rates for participating students who are mostly first generation and/or underrepresented minorities.

The New Normal: Helping Faculty Embrace Holistic Advisement to Enhance Student Success

A college-wide faculty retreat was developed based on a faculty survey about their perceptions of their roles as academic advisors. Most indicated that their responsibility is to help students plan courses toward degree completion. The aim was to equip faculty with tools to support and empower students through holistic advisement.
